ANNOUNCEMENTS

DUNGANNON?  Why should I go there or send my kid there?? Join Peter Sherlock and Scott Newman immediately following the 10 AM service in Hudson Hall and they will tell you why!  Then the question will look more like WHY NOT!  For 20 years Region V has been participating in Project HELP in Dungannon, VA.  Participants help those in need to perform home repairs, from painting to roofing and plumbing.  No special skills are needed as we usually have experienced contractors returning (some for their 10th trip!).  Join us July 21 - July 28th, cost is $300/participant, scholarships are available.

The Junior Choir will meet this Wednesday for rehearsal at 7:30 PM.

ECW Book Group meet Wednesday at 7:30 PM and is open to all the women in the church.  Please consider joining us for a discussion of  The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein led by Mitzi Arena. The meeting will be at Lucy Chatelain’s house, 7208 Van Ness Court, McLean.  If you have any questions, please contact Susan Cowart, 703-893-2229, or sfcowart@aol.com.

Elementary EYC in February Mary Lee Montfort has invited us to her house on Feb 26 at 5:30PM to practice our baking skills!  Please put it on your calendar today.  (All children in grades 3-5 are invited to Elementary EYC events.)

We have a few more children who need a sponsor.  If you could manage to give a one-time sponsorship of $50 and create a relationship with one of these children in Haiti, they would greatly appreciate your friendship.  Please make checks payable to St. Thomas’.

Save the Date our parish is scheduled to go to Shrine Mont May 11- 13, which is Mother’s Day weekend.  Mom’s you can request a delightful weekend away with your whole family!

The slate of candidates for Suffragan Bishop is available at www.thediocese.net. The election will take place Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. George's, Fredericksburg.

If you contributed to the flower fund, your annual pledge statement did not reflect that gift.  New statements will be mailed out to reflect that gift.

Planning for the summer? July 10th—13th is Vacation Bible School at St. Thomas’.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper -  Feb 21st, 6:00 PM. Please join us as we rid our cupboards of all fat, and prepare ourselves to mark a Holy Lent. Pancakes will be in abundance and the syrup will flow.  All youth (grades 6 and up) are needed to cook and serve pancakes and host this august function.

Ash Wednesday—the Service of Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes will be celebrated at 12:00 noon and 8:00 PM Feb 22.

Lenten Suppers and Five Loving Acts. Please join us for the five Tuesdays in Lent beginning Feb 28th for our Lenten Suppers.  The simple suppers of soup, salad and bread allow us to gather in fellowship for this holy season.  This year in conjunction with the suppers we will do a small project each week to share Christ’s love with the world.

Our Lenten Program, Margins for Living will follow the suppers beginning with Compline at 7:15PM. See the Lenten brochure for further details.

Come join us for wine and cheese following the 5 p.m. Evening Prayer services on Saturday.

St. Thomas’ is serving dinner at Alternative House on the forth Sunday of every month.  If you would like to help, please sign up on the sheets in Hudson Hall.  The meal is a simple supper, some ideas but not limited to are: spaghetti, pizza, chili, macaroni and cheese, or lasagna.  If you have any questions please email Fr.
