Children/Families

Children's Ministries

This community is very committed to the education of its young people. Education for young people is a cornerstone of St. Thomas' Ministry and a focal point for our families. Through Sunday morning education, St. Thomas' young people learn not only about what it means to be a Christian, but also about how to live out their faith in both the local community and the wider world.  If you are interested in knowing more about Children's Ministries here at St. Thomas, read on!

Early Episcopal Youth Community (EEYC)

The Early Episcopal Youth Community (EEYC) program allows the parish's 3rd through 5th graders the chance to meet and enjoy both service and social time tailored especially for their own age group.  EEYC gatherings allow St. Thomas' younger members the chance to build relationships, as well as deepen their connection to the church during the important "tween" years.  The group meets on one Sunday night per month for fun and fellowship.  For more information, please contact Mollie Regan at mollieregan@verizon.net or Father Stephen at stthom1rector@cox.net.

Sunday School

Children and youth (prek – grade 7) at St. Thomas' start Sunday School at the beginning of the 10 AM service and they join the adults in worship right before the peace.

Children (PreK - grade 5) use the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum (ECC), a product of Virginia Theological Seminary.  The curriculum is divided into four units – Old Testament, New Testament, Sacraments, and Church – and the lessons within each unit are connected to one another.  This year (2011-2012), the Sacraments unit will focus on the Eucharist.

Children in grades 6 - 7 use the Episcopal Youth Curriculum (EYC), also a product of Virginia Theological Seminary.  They spend the first half of the year studying Old Testament figures and the second half studying New Testament ones.  In essence, each year, they get a crash course in the Bible.

If you would like a copy of the Sunday School schedules for the different age groups, please contact Fr. Stephen at stthom1rector@cox.net.

Youth in grades 8-12 (most of whom have been confirmed as adult members in the church) are invited to participate fully in the worship services (8 AM and 10 AM on Sundays).  They may serve as readers, greeters, ushers, Lay Eucharistic ministers, etc.  Please contact Fr. Stephen at stthom1rector@cox.net for more information.
