Faith Formation for Children and Youth at St. Thomas’
One look at St. Thomas’ and you’ll clearly see our strong community commitment to helping our children and youth develop a deep relationship with and an engaging experience of a loving and very present God. Every day, and Sunday, too, St. Thomas’s offers opportunities for all to grow as God’s whole, new family.
Our Children's Formation program is organized aroundGodly Play is a creative and imaginative approach to Christian nurture. It teaches children the art of using parables, sacred stories, silence and liturgical actions, and in this process it helps them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives. As Godly Play opens children to the Spirit, the Creator, and the Redeemer in every moment and place, it deeply roots them as Christians while also encouraging them to be the open and creative people they were created to be. Learn more about Godly Play by following these links to the Godly Play Website and to Fr. Stephen's Godly Play sermons.
is grounded in a tradition of mindful presence to God. Mindful prayer continues a long Christian tradition of quiet openness to God, and is also (we've recently learned) a wonderful tool for stress management and reduction for people of all ages. Our Pre-teens will spend the year exploring the parables of Jesus through art and reflections on their own experience, wondering what Jesus and his teaching have to say to them and their world. Our Teens will discuss vocation--who God has made them, what God might be calling them to do, and most importantly, how to listen to God speaking within them, calling them to their truth.
St. Thomas’ Cribbery is open and staffed each Sunday morning during the 10am Service for children aged three and under. One paid Staff Member is assisted by Parent and Youth Volunteers.
Early Episcopal Youth Community (EEYC)
The Early Episcopal Youth Community (EEYC) program allows the parish's 3rd through 5th graders the chance to meet and enjoy both service and social time tailored especially for their own age group. EEYC gatherings allow St. Thomas' younger members the chance to build relationships, as well as deepen their connection to the church during the important "tween" years. The group meets on the third Sunday afternoon of the month for games, discussion, service and Pizza! For more information, please contact Mary Beth Emerson at firstname.lastname@example.org or Mollie Regan at email@example.com
